Life's many detours

Life indeed has many detours. 10 years ago in 1997, I moved from my first teaching job in a private college to teach in Sunway College, while finishing a Masters degree, at that time, have a steady BF whom I was planning to start a family with. Somehow things broke loose and fell apart, he decided to marry another woman and migrated to Australia with her. I left my job in Sunway and left Malaysia to live in the States for a while. Though I first met DH while I was there, we only got married 6 years after we first met each other.

I came back to Malaysia after the short stint in the States, decided not to go back to KL/PJ and moved back to Malacca, got a teaching job with MMU in Melaka. I have never planned to get married to an angmoh or running a preshool, it was not anything close to what I have in mind. Many people have their glasses dropped when I married an angmoh, as I am Chinese educated, raised in a Chinese speaking family, grew up in a Chinese village, read Chinese newspaper, take Chinese herbs and cook Chinese food, everyone would have expected me to marry one of my own kind.

Being married to a westerner has many challenges that I do not anticipate. The differences in cultures and values, and the mode of operandi threw me off my comfort zones many times, at times I beat myself up for not thinking when I decided to marry him.:-)
