Joy of Learning!

I am one of those weird people who get excited about and enjoy learning new things. I have never stop learning new things, either for my job or for leisure. I am a firm believer in continuing education and believe that one stops to grow when one stops to learn.:-)

Though I did a Master degree by research and recently took up a diploma course through distance learning after I came out of "school" 15 years ago, I believe one does not necessary have to take a accredited course in order to learn, in fact life itself presents so many learning opportunities, it's never an end to what one can learn.

The most exciting venture in learning that I am taking on right now is my recent infection with the blogitivitis. I have started with this humble blog here and had since moved on to a couple of self hosted domains, there are so many new things to learn in this new venture and I can almost feel the adrenaline rush.:-)

I need a vacation !!

I have been so stressed up recently, I need a break, from the school, from the children and from the parents! I am going to go away this weekend to somewhere, even it's just to Timbaktu!

How I wish I have the luxury to just packing my bag, book the Maui vacation home rentals at hawaiianbeachrentals.com and hop over to the beach to unwind from this madness. As I drool over the pictures on Hawaii Travel, I realised that Hawaii is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth, its beaches, its waters, its sunsets are like none other. Must put it on their list of places to see in my lifetime, preferably, without DH. I am still very angry with him for not keeping to his words on when to come back here. I am so disappointed with him for keep changing his plan.
Back to my plan to getaway this weekend, I just make up my mind to drive downsouth, find a small town or a fishing village to just hang around and do nothing for the weekend. Though there is nothing spectacular like a Hawaiian holidays, but that's all I can afford, time and financial wise.

Affordable Hosting Plans

If you are looking for web hosting solutions or purchase domains, hop over to http://www.hostarcadia.com to check out their affordable plans. The hosting plan starting as low as $3/month and resellers starting at $6/month, it's hard to find a better value somewhere else from a host that will guarantee you're satisfied.

Host Arcadia is a new company created with the client in mind. They have spent a considerable amount of time developing an ideal solution that is guaranteed to work well for you. You will enjoy a clean and simple Control Panel, high allowance of disk space and generous monthly data transfer bandwidth. In fact, they host their own website with Host Acadia, so you can be assured your hosting experience will be of the highest standard.

They have hosted customers worldwide, ranging from blog sites to small online businesses, and just about everything in between! The servers are in the Atlanta NAP datacenter in Atlanta, Georgia. Each server is connected to a 100mbps port to ensure the most speed for your sites. Important thing, they aren't fly by night reseller, nor make use of a VPS, they actually own and care for the servers.

All of the servers run CentOS, a Linux platform. They all run the cPanel/WHM control panel (updated to the latest "Stable" build) and the Fantastico DeLuxe auto-installer. In addition to the auto-installer for scripts, their technicians can help you install and troubleshoot many PHP scripts available online. You will definitely apprrciate this especially if you are new to the online world or like me, you have had horrible experience with a hosting company that wouldn't assist you in anything other than sending you cookies cutter replies.

It isn't everyday that you come across a company that can provide so much and require so little and excellent uptime track record!

Gold Investment?

I know many older folks who buy gold or silver as an investment. They bought them either in coin or ingot form. (Ingots are pure bulllion cast in a particular size and shape). Nowadays, one can also purchase silver, gold or other precious metals and coins through the Monex Deposit Company (MDC) and have them deliver or arrange for safe storage at an independent bank or depository.

DH's late grandfather is a gold and silver coins collector, DH inherited some of his coins when he passed away.DH collected more over the years because he believes in the ability of gold or silver as an investment. Though buying gold has been recognized for centuries as one of the best ways to preserve one’s wealth and purchasing power from the time of ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans to more modern times, I bet to differ. To me, I see that as a personal hobby, not an investment vehicle. Gold or any precious metals for that matter doesn't yield good return and therefore is not a good investment. I personally do my investing based on the long term – five, 10 and twenty year investment return track records. Gold – any way you analyze it – has a horrible twenty-year investment return track record!

Mac Games Aplenty

I have never own a Mac but DH is using a Mac laptop that his father gave him. Father in law is a diehard fan of Mac, he owned almost every generations of Mac that ever came into the market! Previously, he was using Mac in his editorial job, which required him to do quite a bit of desktop publishing. He definitely preferred Mac than PC for the ease and the super customized experience. In his personal life, he used to own PCs and Macs, but preferred Mac anytime. Since he didn't play much games on his Mac and wasn’t an avid gamer, it's alright that there are fewer mac games available. But, now that he is retired, he likes to play computer games to past time, he is stuck with few games that came as a bundle with the Mac purchase . Good that I stumbled upon this site has free Mac games that he can download, I must go tell him about it. In fact, this site features a weekly pick of the best games, applications, freeware, products for the Mac. It has quite an extensive range of all things Mac like hardware, software and peripherals including the iPod and accessories. Though I don't have a Mac, I have an iPod, so will check out the site to find some cool stuffs.

The Old Media

Sometime I felt that the old media is a bunch of craps. My recent encounter with a journalist confirmed my own biasness. As a regular citizen who wrote to the editors of the newspaper, I knew they don't publish any things that they deem sensitive or controversial, they practice self censorship even with matters that are not sensitive at all. They were also afraid of offending the big shoots.
I once wrote a letter that question the legality of the city started charging parking fees for an area that yet to be gazetted in the state exco meeting. I also mentioned in the letter that the major office refused to take the complaint letter that I wrote to the mayor. They never publish the letter. The Internet and blogs are boons to us the powerless commoners who don't have the resource and power to reach the masses by the traditional old media.

Reuse and Recycle

SwitchPlanet.com is a social media trading website where members can switch their old DVDs, CDs, Games and Books with other members for free. It isn’t your typical “service”, because you don’t pay anything to partake in it. People can join the group for free to offer items they don’t want or members can also request items they need. It's a great way to reuse items before they wind up in landfills. The idea is simple, use more…waste less! The end result is: one person gets rid of something that sitting there taking up space in their home and another person benefits by filling a need, so everyone wins.

Most importantly SwitchPlanet was built to help an even greater need. Since SwitchPlanet is free to use members are given the option to donate any amount they choose every time they receive something for free on the SwitchPlanet Network. These donations are put into a SwitchFund that is then distributed among selected charities and non-profit organizations to propagate a good cause.

Social tools such as friends, groups and forums are available to help members communicate between trades. The only stipulation is that you may not request money or other compensation in exchange for offering your items. You are free to offer anything and to make arrangements to ship the items or for those items to be picked up (or you may drop them off), but you may not sell anything. The idea of SwitchPlanet is noble, I hope it takes off in a big way and create a great way for people to enjoy media/entertainment for the cost of postage.

Mailbox that works finally

When we bought the house, it came with a mailbox installed on one of the pillars of the gate. But, it was very poorly designed, the opening for the mailbox was too small, every time when we have mails in bigger envelopes or packages, the mailman would have to leave them outside and they got soaked in the rain a couple of times.

We have no choice but went look for a new mailbox with a bigger opening, out of the variety of mailboxes that available, we choose a column mailbox that has a large opening as replacement. We had to get a workman to help us to reinstall the mailbox and it costs quite a bit. Which make me wonder, it might be just more cost effective to buy one of those mailboxes which you can put on a post and do it yourself.

Moving plan halted

I have told you about getting a premises and planning to move the preschool into. Unfortunately, my friend who owns the semi-D back up last minute, he (or rather his wife) decided that they wanted to sell the house instead of renting it out. They have put up the house for sell with a real estate broker.

The real estate market here is quite sluggish, I am quite doubtful they are able to sell the house with the slightly on the high side of asking price, especially the developer still have some unsold units selling at a lower price. Well, I am back to loop to search for a new location, at the same time I am hoping that they won't be able to sell it and will offer to rent again.:-)

Disney Vacation Home

When my cousin was planning a trip to Disney World with her children recently, she asked me to find out information for her online. Oh wow, I look at the vast range of theme parks and the shows available in Orlando and wish I stay nearer and can visit them soon. Do you know how many choices of accommodations and places of attractions they have in just one spot? I also found out that she could get discounted tickets online for most of the attractions before she goes over there.

Since my cousin are going with her family of 8 people, they decided to book a Disney vacation home instead staying in a hotel room. Disney vacation home was her choice of accommodation options. It offers plenty of extra amenities to enjoy and is much better value for money, and per person is typically less than half the price of a hotel room or a suite that has far lesser amenities, space and privacy!

Never Cash Value Life Insurance

Recently I started listening to Dave Ramsey radio show online learn about difference between term life and whole life insurance and realized that the cash value insurance policy that I have was a lousy investment decision. I decided to surrender the policy to get back the cash value and get a term life insurance for the purpose of protection instead. Though I lose out some cash value for doing that, in a long run, it's going to be more beneficial. I check out term life insurance at http://www.onedollarglobeinsurance.com/ for a cheaper rate. For investment, I invested the monetary difference between the cash value policy and the term life policy into reputable mutual funds that have good track record, I am sure this will bring me better returns that the lousy cash value insurance policy.

Do you play poker?

My mother is a big poker fan, though I know how to play the game, I don't like to play it, because it was such a torture trying to keep a poker face when I was so excited with the cards I got. Poker games must have gained considerable popularity recent years to have a demand for specially made poker tables. Thos. Baker LLC, an online merchant of premium teak outdoor furniture has entered the world of poker tables and is offering beautiful game tables. The poker tables at Thos.Baker LLC are made from solid hardwood, have distressed mahogany finish and leather gaming surface. Most of the game tables sold here can be easily converted into a dining room or kitchen table that your family can use. In fact, you just need a solid wood "slipcover" to convert your game table for daily household use. You can also buy the matching club chairs from the same store too. Better yet, their tables are ALWAYS ON SALE when you order discounted pre-set combinations with club chairs or dining tops.

Yahoo....100th PPP

As of the today, I have taken the 100 posts from PPP!

Not to bad huh, half of them are already paid through the paypal and been transferred to the US bank account that DH opened for me.

Though it is getting more difficult to get good opps from PPP this days, but it's still the no 1 earner for me. I like the thrill of trying to grab the opps and complete it there and then. The other services that allow me to sit on it for a few days, I usually would wait until the last minutes to do it. The other day, I lost out 4 opps because it was the last day and the Internet connection didn't work on that fateful day. "Sim tieh", but what to do, thrid world ADSL, third world internet service like that lor, suka-suka outstage, don't even give press statement to explain nor apologise after that. Like there is no such thing as "customer service" in their dictionaries.

Community Awareness of LD

I called up the Malacca office of Sin Chew Jit Poh (a Chinese daily) this afternoon, the person I talked to on the phone didn't even know what's dyslexia and learning difficulty (LD). I told him I have a story that they may be interested to feature. He didn't sound very keen, but he took down my phone number and said his colleague will get back to me.

In the past three years of running the tutoring service, I have encountered quite a lot of children with dyslexic tendendies, audio processing disorder or attention deficit, etc. Most of this children are rather intelligent but were often labeled as lazy, playful, stupid, etc. The Star had covered such news and featured such story quite often and many people who are English educated have probably heard of these. But I noticed there is very little awareness among the Chinese community about such issues, I have never read in the Chinese newspaper about dyslexia or audio prosessing disorder or LD. I hope they will call me and write a story on that.

The light bulb moment

A mother came to see me last week about her 9 years son who can't read a word. Though I have not seen him, I took a little bit of history and was almost certain that there is certain learning difficulty that causing a rather intelligent boy not able to read at 9 years old. From what I gathered from his mom, I suspected he is dyslexic or maybe also has attention deficit.

Today, I met him for an evaluation and started the first lesson with him. Before the lesson, I asked him to read me the words that I have on the cards, simple words like : go, man, jam, to, sit,..... He couldn't read any of them!
Then, I taught him the letter sounds of the 26 letters, he seemed to pick up really fast. Then, we did a little of phonemic awareness exercises, he did extremely well in isolating the initial sounds and final sounds, but have a little trouble hearing the vowel sounds.
Since he was condemned so much by his school teachers and has rather low self esteem, I thought I want to boast his self esteem a little first, so I gave him about twenty CVC words i.e. rat, cat, pin, sun,...., he was able to sound out the letters perfectly, and then we went ahead to blend the letter sounds. I can see the light bulb turned on for him, he just went on reading all the words that I gave him and was very excited.

I think this kind of children are the ones that make my teaching career so satisfying, I felt like I have saved another starfish, by throwing it back to the sea!

First day of school

Today is the first day of school after the two weeks break, children are still very much in holiday mood, two didn't want to get down from the cars when their parents dropped them in the morning.

I thought W is going to forget everything after two weeks of break, but it seems like she was able to retain most of the things learnt before the break. Bad news: she had been taking too much sugary stuff during the break, you can see that her concentration is affected, she fidgeted a lot today when I was giving her s lesson on teens. At one point I almost lost my cool, but I was able to stop myself from raising my voice, and able to tell her jokingly in a calm voice that she is making me dizzy by swinging her body around during presentation of a lesson.:-)

Sunset Malibu Rehab

It's understandable that most of us see taking illegal drugs as an addiction problem, but may view pain killer addiction as otherwise harmless. Prescription drugs are much easily available, and people got hooked on it even without realizing that they have developed an addiction problem. Looking at the mushrooming of drug rehab centers that offered program for pain killer addiction, we know it's rampant. It may not be easy to convince someone that they need to kick off the habit of popping pain killer like candy. But, for the sake of their health, they should, taking too much pain killer is going to burden their kidney and eventually lead to kidney failure if they do not stop it.

Sunset Malibu is a treatment center that offers recovery program for pain killer addiction beside the usual treatment for drug addiction and substance abuse. Individuals and families can seek refuge from the pain of their addiction problem here in a beautiful private location with magnificent whitewater ocean view outside the sunny confines of Los Angeles, California. The center has the highest quality amenities and comforts, specializing in alcohol detox, substance abuse treatment, painkiller addiction treatment, and the treatment of co-occurring disorders such as depression and eating disorders. The treatment here incorporates a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional methods, has the highest rate of recovery.

What I missed most working for others?

I used to teach in three private colleges before I decided to leave to setup the Montessori preschool two years ago. Working for myself certainly has certain advantages compare to working for others i.e. the flexibility and the monetary return in long run. Yesterday, my mother asked me what I missed most about working in a big corporation compare to working in a tinny tiny preschool? I thought for a while and half jokingly told her that I missed most about the well-stocked pantry and the fun tea breaks we used to have in the colleges.

I remembered whenever we were bitten by the sleepy bugs in the afternoon, we would get out of our offices, knocked on each other's door to go for a cup of tea or coffee at the pantry. One of the colleges that I worked used to have a tea lady to make drink for us, another one had self service espresso machines that we can just prepared the cappuccino or espresso ourselves easily. The espresso machines produce excellent espresso and Cuppucino, they are very convenient and are the must have if your company is willing to spend on one. I missed the Expresso machine! But, it's impractical for us to get such a huge machine for a small school.

Shopping for Lighting and Fans

The preschool will be relocating from the present premises to a new location. The new premises is a brand new semi-D house with a little outdoor compound that we would like to use as playground. Since the house is new and it hasn't had any lighting and fans installed yet, my friend who owns the house would like me to figure out the lighting, fans and sockets we need, so that he can start installing them. For we are going to start the licensing process as soon as next month, we do need to hurry up to fix up the house ready for inspection.
Since the house is fairly big with good ventilation, we are pretty fixed that we are not going to install air condition in every room, but only the master bedroom that we are going to use as napping room. The other rooms and the living halls that are going to be used as classrooms will have just ceiling fans. As for the lighting, it's not going to be anything fancy like the fine art lamps, some indoor lamps and energy efficient bulbs will be more appropriate.:-)

Safety First

Occupational safety and health is not an exciting topic that people will usually talk about during social interactions, but it is important to establish safety and health programs that find and fix hazards to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses. Safety gears at least shall be used as one of the work practice controls to eliminate or minimize employee exposure to occupational hazards. You are putting your life at risk by not having proper safety gears!

OnlineStores.com, a leading online stores, has a online retailer store DiscountSafetyGear.com that specialised in selling a wide range of safety equipment of all types, including hard hats, safety goggles, first aid kits, gloves, safety harnesses, gas detector and etc.

The online retail store lists the categories of safety gears on left hand sidebar, so you can just browse the category that interest you without going through the whole store. It also provide you information on the safety laws and links to some useful safety sites. The prices of goods are quite reasonable and the shipping is free if purchase is over $100. Though the store sells mostly to small construction companies, but many individuals also use the site. You may want to check out the site for safety goggles or gas detector if you and your teens are conducting experiments for homeschooling.:-)

VOIP for Small Business

Previously only big corporations can afford sophisticated phone system, but with the availability of VOIP Small Business phone systems, even small company can improve and explore this new technology at affordable rates. I personally have switched over to VOIP for the small tutoring business that I am running, it's really the smartest move that brings cost saving and productivity.

VOIP Small Business phone systems allows small businesses with office branches scattered across the country to share the same phone system on the same private list of extensions across all branch offices equally. You can also enjoy free 4-digit dialing between the branches or home office locations. The benefits VoIP phone systems have to offer the small business world are endless. Usually, that also mean costs can be drastically reduced, productivity can be boosted thanks to unlimited free service & support as well as improved long distance and international calling plans.

Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery are topics of growing interest. You get television shows featuring Hollywood stars that went through them, certain channels even show you the plastic surgeons and their patients before and after the surgery. More and more plastic surgery procedures are being performed every year. It was once only affordable for the wealthy, today common people from all walks of life go for plastic surgery believing in the great enhancements it can provide to quality of life.

With advancement of modern science and technology, though its possible to turn a duckling into a swan, the process is not without risks. People have to understand the plastic surgery procedures, in order to have the right expectation on the results, recovery and whether they are suitable candidates for such procedure in a first place.

Before you head off to Beverly Hills rhinoplasty to get a nose job or to Los Angeles plastic surgery to have a complete makeover, do get yourself educated. Check out plasticsurgery101.net, it has detailed procedure descriptions, news and trends, and before and after photos. Since new techniques are constantly being developed and introduced. You do want to have a lot of clear information to avoid confusion and wrong expectation about the procedure, which is quite common.

Vacation in Orlando next Summer?

Many people won't believe me or him when we said DH had lived in the US for 40 years and had never been to the Disney World in Orlando Florida. He had travelled quite a bit and been to many states within the US, but he had never been to Washington DC and Disney World, hard to believe?

We have worked so hard for the last two years and haven't been able to take any vacation. Since we are going to visit his parents next year, we hope to plan a Florida vacation. The exciting theme parks, white sandy beaches may not be the biggest attraction to me. But I like the idea of staying in a Orlando vacation home rental and relax, in the wonderful climate, beautiful countryside of rolling hills and of course the shopping does sound appealing. :-)

Starter Home to Luxury Home

One of the reasons we choose to settle down here instead of me going to California is because houses are much more affordable here. We are able to buy a house with built of areas over 2500 sqt feet by paying a fraction of what we would have to pay in CA. Since we are newly married with no child, we bought a starter home that meets our need at the moment.
We hope that we are disciplined enough to follow through with our financial plans and one day may be able to afford a luxury home. In fact, most of the older couples in our bible study group have moved out of their starter homes recently. As their family grew and population increased, they were running out of space in their starter homes. One of them had engaged a contractor to build a luxury dream home, another one bought a luxury home from the developer and the other one renovated and extended their existing home. Their houses reveal a host of new "must have" and components that I never considered or dreamed of. Like a well manicured rock garden, eco-friendly building materials and energy-saving innovations.

Time to order business cards

I have been so busy online and offline, didn't realise that I am running low of business cards. Yesterday, a student's mother asked for my business card because she misplaced or lost the one that I gave her earlier. Then only I realised that there are only a few left.
This morning I quickly called the company that I usually order the business cards, hopefully by Monday I can get the replacement. There are only a few traditional cards printing service in this small town, and the price is a bit steep compare to the big cities. I always believe monopoly is not a good thing, lesser competition always mean consumers have to pay higher price and have little choices. I will definitely order online if there is an online store that can supply the same for a cheaper price.

Want to Get Bookcases

When we got married two years ago, we didn't go all way to get new furniture for the house, as we do not know at that time whether we will be living here for good or will move to DH's hometown. We were trying to see whether he is able to adjust to the living conditions here before we decide to settle down here. Nevertheless, we did get some basic home furniture that enable us to live comfortably.
We bought a new bedroom set, dining table and sofa. We also got a few furniture from the second hand store. The kitchen is already equipped with built in cabinets and we just bought a dining table set. We are thinking of getting a few bookcases to store our books, which are piling up everywhere and some are in boxes. I personally like bookcases with glasses, that would lessen the dust collected and protect my precious possession, also lesser cleaning to do. :-)

Unresistable temptations

I sew and knit, and I collect beautiful fibers, either fabrics or yarns. And am a confirmed fabricholic. In the last two years, I have been busy with the preschool that I started and have to slow down the sewing, but that didn't slow me down or deter me in purchasing more fabrics. I have an iron cabinets that store hundred pieces of fabrics, it's overflowing and often difficult to close. But, it probably would take me another lifetime to sew up all this fabrics.

But everytime I saw vintage fabrics or fabrics with retro themes, I just couldn't resist getting another one. I would be thinking, this will look so good if made into pillow case or bed sheets, or sew into a dress. But, how many pillow cases or bed sheets one needs? And, I don't even wear dresses much in my daily life.

This retro polka dots and fresh green tartan plaid are my favourite, , I could almost envision this fabrics can be a wonderful accent to a child's room. Lets put it that way, I don't even have a child. LOL

Getting Customers to Your Door

In my experience of running the preschool, the hardest thing isn't getting off the ground, getting organized or even getting the funds necessary to get started. I think the most difficult part is getting the words out and getting people to the doors to check us out.

Initially, I experimented with various ways to market the business i.e. classified, fliers, direct mails, advertisement in prints. And I found advertise in the newspaper not only costly, also wasn't that effective. The fliers and direct mails are the most effective ones. Maybe it's due to the nature of the business and it is geographically specific, I mean most people do only check out preschools around their neighborhood only. That's probably why direct mails are more effective as it's more targeted at my potential customers.
As I do need geographically and demographically specific data in order not to waste resources when sending out direct mails, I subscribe to good mailing lists. My mailing lists provider were able to supply families with young children within 10 miles radius. The company also has a guarantee policy, if the list fails to perform, they will replace the unsuccessful data with new data at no additional charge. In addition, they also update the list quarterly to ensure each consumer list stays complete, comprehensive, and up-to-date in the market place.

Fly to Europe

DH always wanted to visit Germany to know more about his German roots. In fact, he still has a lot of relatives who live there. His parents went there many years ago and they were able to meet up with them. Germany might not be my dream country to visit, but I really don't mind going to Europe so long I get to see Italy, the country that I would really like to visit. I once vowed that I shall make a trip to Europe before I am 40, and that's 3 years left. :-)

The Euro is so strong, which make traveling to Europe not cheap for most people especially we are earning in RM right now. With services like 1-800-Fly-Europe that offers discounted airfare to Europe, flying to Europe has made more affordable, maybe it can help to make our dreams come true sooner? 1-800-Fly-Europe doesn’t just offer discounted airfare, it also specializes in European hotel reservations and car rental. In fact, it offers cheap airfares to most major cities in Europe: London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Dublin and more cities! If you book your flights to Europe online through 1-800-Fly-Europe, you can save a lot with their discounted tickets. So, if you are planning a trip to Europe, do check it out!

Baby Diaper Bag

My best friend is dued to deliver her first baby next month. I was browsing at online stores that sell products for moms, kids and babies for a diaper bag and baby. And I found this really cool Carter's Easy Access Diaper Bag that I would like to get her as gift.

I like the fact that this Carter’s diaper bag is made of water-resistant suede-like fabric, it looks so fahionable yet it's a very functional bag that allows effortless access to all of mom’s and baby’s essentials. The designer of this bag obviously know the needs of a mother with busy hands, the front flap closures is magnetic, which can be easily maneuver with one hand.

It certainly doesn't look bulky, but it has everything a mother with a baby needs, a insulated bottle holder, coated changing pad, and plastic dirty duds pouch for easy clean up. When going out for a walk with baby in the stroller, mommy can hang this bag neatly on a stroller with the loops in back pocket. The shoulder strap is adjustable and has added padding that make it more comfortable. I am pretty sure my friend will like this chic and fashionable diaper bag

Malibu Cliffside Drug Rehab

Looking at this resort like building tucked away on the mountain, surrounded with greenery, does it change your impression how drug rehab should look like? We are so used to the news of inmates running away from prison cells alike drug rehab in Malaysia, it's probably hard to believe this beautiful resort like place is used for Drug Rehabilitation

Cliffside Malibu is an extremely luxurious and private drug and alcohol facility. I wonder do those Hollywood celebrates come here to kick off their addiction problems. :-)
Here in Cliffside Malibu, they have private room for each participant, have chef to prepare meals, spa services, yoga, personal training and plasma TVs in each room. Well, it does sound like more like a resort than a drug rehab , doesn't it?
On top of that, Cliffside has the most advanced and top-ranked experts who are dedicated to help addicts to stay sober and start to lead a fulfilling life. Each patient is treated as an individual and will be provided individual plan according to their needs. Further, Cliffside also has great follow up plan for each patient, they will keep their patients sober, long after they leave the facility.

Holiday mood

My aunt called last night whether I could drive her to the temple downtown. Since I am on holidays and rather free, I obliged. I have been staying in the house/room, busy with paid posts and setting up two new blogs since the holidays started last week, thought it's good opportunity to go out to take a walk.:-)
School holiday is almost going to end, time really flies!
I have some organisations that need to do for the rest of the week. May go to Tesco today to get those palstic containers to store the classroom materials. I do need to get them organised so that it's easier to rotate them or locate them when needed.

Online Calorie Counter

One of my friends who is always into some sort of diet plan said: trying to lose weight is a lifelong project for every woman. Well, how true is that!? I am one of those, have put on pounds after 30 that I was trying so hard to lose for the past 5 years.:-)

I have always been a hearty eater, but as the metabolism rate slowing down and life becomes more sedate, my body just doesn't need so much calories anymore. Though I am watching my diet, I am also not a very disciplined person who can follow a plan religiously. However, I am also too chicken to try diet supplement like Fenphedra. Would you take diet pills to lose weight?

SAT Study Guide

I talked to a friend who is interested to homeschool her two boys recently. She was concerned whether the children are able to go to college if she choose to homeschool them. I tried to explain to her what many homescholling children who wanted to go to college did, they took the SAT Test.

What is SAT? My friend asked.

Many of the universities in the US measured the standard of various students by this standadized test and it's accepted as an entrance qualification for most universities in the US and all private institutions in Malaysia. Traditionally, one attends the tutorial classes or follow a paper based SAT Study Guide on her/his own to prepare for the test. Now, there are also sites that would offer free SAT Prep course. You can get information of the test from the comfort of your home, this prep course cover all of the key topics, including the words you need in your vocabulary and the math concepts you must understand.

Bad Credit Remortgage

Remortgage Guild specialise in getting mortgages for people, they can get you a remortgage even with a bad credit rating, without requirement of a credit check.

Well, if you are in tricky situation like a pending divorce, a pending court case, or a past bankruptcy that hold you down with your credit rating, and you are in a really desperate situation, you may go for this kind of unsecured loan.
As I am not sure it's really a good idea to remortgage so you can get deeper in debts to finance a holiday or a remodelling project. If I am not mistaken, the rates for this kind of mortgage usually would not be low. The lenders would probably not tell you that the monthly/biweekly/weekly repayments are lowered so you ended up paying longer and pay more in interest. So, be wise and seek independent advice to make sure you are not jumping from a frying pan to the fire.

Dress Up Games

I wasn’t a very girly girl nor a tomboy as a child, but I do remember playing dress up with dolls and cardboard dress up sets that we buy for a few cents from the candy store. We even drew our own cardboard dresses when we want certain fashion that was not available. We took the cardboard doll, traced around it to get the silhouette, then added extra tabs around so that it could be fit over the doll to dress them.

When I told my niece about the http://www.cartoondollemporium.com and the dress up games that her aunts used to play, she thought it's such a cool idea. Well, I guess it's the inherent trait that girls love to make things look pretty(most do anyway), and dress up games are always appealing to them, if they don’t dress up their dolls, they would be dressing up their kittens and puppies.

My niece was pleased with the Cartoon Doll Emporium on webkinz that I introduced her to it, it's just like the cardboard dress up dolls my sisters and I used to play with except they are virtual! They are huge selection of dolls, all of them do have that typical huge eyes and cute smiles though. There is also a makeover function that allows you to do the doll's hair. You can even make a replica of yourself if you are creative. This can also be use as avatar on social forums like myspace if you don't want to use your real photos.

Cheap radiators

Both our cars are not new. Though they seldom broke down or gave us problems. Last year, the radiator of my car broke down. Being the mechanically challenged, I didn't even realize that for days and kept wondering how come the weather was so hot when in actual fact, the air conditioner was not working properly due to a malfunctioning of the radiator. We are lucky to have reliable mechanics who take care of it. Our regular mechanics is a very honest hardworker, he never try to take advantage of his clients like most gangster mechanics we all know.

When I finally sent the car to the mechanics, he told me that the radiator had broken down and need to get a new one. He recommended us a store that sell cheap radiators and only charged us labor for fixing it. We are very happy with the repairs and have not have any problems with the radiator since then.

Slow weekend

The weekend has been slow, internet service at parents' place was down, let a few paid posts expired, spent time with pauline, my ex-roomate who came visit. We went downtown tourist trap Jonker Walk. Took some pictures and had cendol. As usual, the traffics downtown were horrible during weekends, most cars were from out of states. We sat at a cafe and counted the cars that passed us by, on an average, out of 10 cars that passed by, only 1 of them was a Melaka registered number plate.

Stairlifts to restore freedom and independence

My aunt had a stroke last year; she has lost her mobility and has to move around the house in a wheelchair. She used to live upstairs, after the stroke my cousin moved her to the small room downstairs that used to be occupied by the maid. Though unhappy with arrangement, that's the only arrangement they could think of previously.

Recently, they have been looking into installing stairlift in the house. They have contacted a couple of companies that distribute stairlifts. Value Stairlifts is one of them. Value Stairlifts provide a number of stairlift models that they can choose to ensure it’s the right stairlift which will enable my aunt to move around their home with ease and confidence. I am sure installing a starlift will eventually help to restore freedom and independence for my aunt.
